Another trip up to town to meet up with an old friend - this one, a university friend who lives on the Isle of Wight. For various reasons, we hadn't managed to get together in the time she's been living there, but today we finally did sort something out, and of course, the first order of business was getting some lunch. Spoilt for choice on the Southbank and environs, but we decided to go for Wahaca...
good choice! I didn't photograph all the food, but these are Sarah's black bean and cheese quesadillas (Sarah was the only one of the kids who came with - finally, a day without going in to school for GCSE revision; she really needed a treat)
...and these are Kirsten's sweet potato and feta cheese taquitos. Yum.
Here's a bit of interesting artwork along the south bank...
...and a view from Waterloo Bridge, as we walked across into Covent Garden. None of us being tourists (she works up in London quite often and I of course worked there for years), we just decided to have a wander - plus it was a nice day, so it was good to be outside. We strolled around Covent Garden, poked into some shops, bought a fantastic pair of Doc Martens (ok, that was just me...no photo, but they look like this), did some more poking around and strolling and then had tea and cakes in Patisserie Valerie.
On the way back to Waterloo, we passed a sweet shop in Bedford Street (Spun) where they were making cool rock candy - here's someone making some - all the different colours are formed together to get the right design, then it's pulled thin to make the rock
and cut into lengths.
This was a little mutant made from the leftover bits of some bespoke design they'd been creating. A fun day - and even though this is my 5th time up town in only a few weeks, I'm not tired of it yet. I don't miss the daily commute, I admit, but I sure do love me some London.
