Yesterday, we went off to do the Ingleton Waterfalls Walk - Ingleton is a village close to where our friends live, about 15 minutes away. The walk is fantastic - up one river, across a bit of farmland, then down another river - there are loads of falls and the path is really well maintained, so although there are lots of steps, it's good underfoot and there are handrails and things all along the steep bits.
We set off with Geoff and me and Mark, and all the kids (except the baby) - unfortunately, Karol-Ann couldn't come with us because her leg is still recovering from surgery, but the rest of us had a great walk to the top of the first side of the trail. We then had a fantastic picnic in the sunshine (yes, in Yorkshire!) after which Mark headed back down to the carpark to go off to a tennis tournament, while Geoff and I carried on with the kids to the end of the trail - our girls were fantastic in helping look after their brother and the other two boys, while they scampered along the trail quickly.
Although the walk itself was only about 4 or 5 miles, it took us nearly 5 hours to do the whole thing - partly because we let the kids keep stopping to muck about at the side of the rivers, partly because we picnicked and stopped for icecream later, and partly because there was a lot of up and down - you can't make nearly the time on this sort of ground that you might on flat terrain. I'd said it was partly because we had a 5 (nearly 6) year old with us, but honestly, he was brilliant - no complaints at all, and walked the whole thing until the very end, when the girls gave him a bit of a piggyback. A stunning day.
I did take more photos, which are in my flickr album...
