I've read Horowitz's other Sherlock Holmes pastiche and enjoyed it (House of Silk) and this one was ok, too, but I couldn't completely settle to it. I won't discuss it in detail for fear of spoilers, but my main issue I think was to do with not really connecting to the narrator, which always makes a book difficult to read, I think. (Probably why I'm in that small minority of people who can't stand The Catcher in the Rye.)
