A walk to the Post Office

As it was a nice morning, not too hot, not too humid, we (my mother, Alex and I - the girls were still asleep at not-quite-9am) decided to walk over to the post office, rather than drive. It's about a half hour walk or so, at a strolling pace.  Alex was admiring the fire hydrants, which are bright orange in my mom's neighbourhood, as we don't have them in England).

Here's the somewhat shady sidewalk on the walk out of the development to the main road.

We crossed the road and came up to the edge of Savage, where there's this old mill building

and a cool (ex-) railway bridge.

We crossed over the railway bridge,

stopping to look at the creek - a branch of the Little Patuxent (we think) -

and to take photos of bugs.

Here's a view of Savage Mill, which is an old mill complex-turned shopping area (antique and boutique shops).

I know what this sign means, but I still like it - and no, I wasn't sure what was down the road to the left, either!

After the post office, we turned around and headed back, this time stopping to have a poke around the outside of Savage Mill (the shops not being open yet, as it was only about 9.40) - Alex found a Big Chair,

while I spotted a flowerbed full of Black-Eyed Susans,

and my mother spotted a cool lamp post.

Then back along the bridge, and we decided to come home via the path along the stream/creek/river/whatever it is. We thought we might have to walk down it, then turn around and come back, but there's a new housing development which has made a proper path from the road down to the river path, which is great - means we didn't have to backtrack at all.

We spotted Mr Heron waiting very patiently for breakfast.

And finally, came back via the very small local playground

our local stream, which runs behind my mom's house,

some interesting foliage,

and another photograph of an insect!
