Flowers in memory of Tia

One of the things we did today, after coming home from our lovely holiday up in North Yorkshire, was to stop by school and lay some flowers outside the gate in memory of Tia Sharp, the girl in Olivia's year who was recently murdered. Olivia wasn't close friends with her, but she knew her, and it's been quite distressing to deal with, both for Olivia and for me as well - it's not something that should happen to a 12YO. Or anyone.

Olivia chose to leave her flowers next to this cute stuffed toy, which another friend left.

This photo shows all the tributes outside the gate - many many more have been left outside the home of Tia's grandmother, where it happened, but that's quite a long way from here, and school is close. She also went inside to sign the book of condolence. Not a happy thing to do, but it's great that school is able to open a little to offer this chance to the kids who feel like they need to be doing something in response to this tragedy.  And there are staff members available for counseling, for those pupils who need it.
